"Perfect yourself before you perfect others."
Even the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) did that.
A woman came to meet the Prophet one day and sought help from Prophet Muhammad(pbuh)regarding her daughter's habit of eating too much sugar.The prophet answered,"Give me one week" After one week,Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) went to meet the woman's daughter to help her with her sugar eating habit.
The reason for requesting to be given a week was because, before Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) could stop the girl from eating too much sugar, he first had to stop eating sugar.
