hypocrite in islam

A few weeks back, i learned about the characteristics of a hypocrite(munafik) in islam and boy was i scared. I would like to share with you this important information as i find it useful for us and also myself to reflect upon ourselves so that we do not fall into this category.

“The signs of the hypocrite are three: when he speaks he lies, when he promises he breaks his promise and when he is entrusted he betrays the trust.” (Bukhari and Muslim)

“…even if he prays and fasts and imagines that he is a Muslim.” (Muslim)


The Hypocrites will be in the lowest depths of the Fire: no helper wilt thou find for them; (The Noble Quran, 4:145)"

"To the Hypocrites give the glad tidings that there is for them (but) a grievous penalty; (The Noble Quran, 4:138)"

"O Prophet! strive hard against the Unbelievers and the Hypocrites, and be firm against them. Their abode is Hell,- an evil refuge indeed. (The Noble Quran, 9:73)"

Astaghfirullah. Sometimes i feel that i fall in this category.Therefore to all my friends reading this post, please forgive me in any event ive broken a promise,lied or broken a trust as i really do not want to be a hypocrite.

'May Allah swt guide us to the right path, make us better muslims and forgive our sins.'

O Allah, I seek forgiveness for every sin, I committed, about which, of course, You know inside and out, from the beginning to the end of my life, whether committed deliberately or intentionally, few or many, abstruse or manifest, old or new, secretly carried out or openly done; and for whatever wrong I have done I turn repentant unto You and beseech You to bless Muhammad and the children of Muhammad and forgive all my unjust acts I did to wrong the people (because they have rights which I have to recognize and fulfill) but You have full authority to forgive those wrongdoings whenever and howsoever You wish, O the most merciful.
